OC Homecoming 2010!

We had a fabulous time this past week-end visiting our oldest, Emily, at Oklahoma Christian University, Edmond, OK...her home away from home for the past year and a half!  It is a beautiful campus and the homecoming festivities beginning with a pep rally, and then a parade and two great basketball games were lots of fun!!  The kids all enjoyed staying with Emily and Alex on campus and Larry and I were more than comfortable at the home of his cousin Sarah and her husband Beau.  It was great to finally meet and visit with them after hearing so much about them from Em.  Knowing that she has them as well as Larry's Aunt and Uncle (Sarah's parents) so close by is reassuring to say the least!  We also had the pleasure of meeting Alex's parents and brothers as well.  They were just as wonderful as Emily said and we look forward to spending more time with them!

The highlight of the trip of course was seeing Emily cheering once again (we loved watching her cheer in high school) and we couldn't be more proud of her!  Connor said it best when he shared these thoughts..."Emily is the best this year and was the best last year and she should be the captain!!  Below are more pictures from our great week-end.....

An Expensive Lesson

Just when I was thinking I haven't had any noteworthy events to blog about lately, my daughter comes to the rescue!  She turned 15 on September 7th, passed her permit test the first time and has been driving with me for about a week now, noticeably improving each time.  Last night she drove home from my office (less than a mile from home) and as she approached our house, she noted that Larry's suv was in the driveway, making her a bit nervous about pulling in and getting too close to it.  That part went ok, but then....

we had a slight "mix up" with stopping!  It happened so fast that we still aren't really sure why she didn't hit the brakes and we were both (and still are) a bit shocked.  Emily called within minutes of realizing that something had happened and as soon as I told her, she was just laughing and laughing!  At first, I said, I'm glad you think it's funny cause I don't but actually she immediately made me feel better and put things in perspective.  No one was hurt and as they say "things" can always be repaired or replaced.  She then reminded me that in just a few weeks, we will have Brett driving as well!!  Thanks Em!

Welcome Class of 2014!

Madison (my firstborn who it seems was just crawling only days ago) and Brett are starting high school this year and just had Freshman Orientation.  They got their schedules, lockers and i.d. card photos taken (well after a retake for Madison!)  Hearing the principal speak at the parent meeting made me just a tad emotional as he spoke of a job well done by parents raising their children thus far, but emphasizing how much they still need love, support and a "firm hand," despite thinking they are all grown up.

Brett is playing football and his discipline and dedication to it are commendable.  His charming, fun loving personality continues to entertain us all and I'm sure high school will bring many memorable moments for him!  Madison is playing soccer and loves being at the heart of her social circle!  We expect her to continue to excel academically and are so proud of her potential!

After orientation, it was pool time!  Go Fox Warriors!!
